Optimizing FSO networks resilient to adverse weather conditions by means of enhanced uncertainty sets
PublicationThis work deals with dimensioning of wireless mesh networks (WMN) composed of FSO (free space optics) links. Although FSO links realize broadband transmission at low cost, their drawback is sensitivity to adverse weather conditions causing transmission degradation on multiple links. Hence, designing such FSO networks requires an optimization model to find the cheapest configuration of link capacities that will be able to carry...

Corrugated Sheeting as a Member of a Shear Panel Under Repeated Load—Experimental Test
PublicationIn stressed-skin design, the cladding stiffening effect on structures is taken into account. However, the “traditional” design is more usual, wherein this effect is neglected. Even if the diaphragm actions are not regarded, in particular cases such as big sheds (and others), the parasitic (unwanted) stressed-skin action may occur with the result of leakage or even failure. The structures of this kind have already been built. Thus,...

A convenient method for the preparation of functionalized N-acylsulfenamides from primary amides.
PublicationWe have developed a convenient method for the synthesis of functionalized N-acylsulfenamides under mild conditions and in moderate to good yields. The designed method is based on the reaction of (5,5-dimethyl-2-thioxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan-2-yl)-disulfanyl derivatives with nitrogen nucleophiles generated from primary amides or imides and sodium hydride. The developed method allows for the preparation of N-acylsulfenamides bearing...

Scheduling of unit-length jobs with cubic incompatibility graphs on three uniform machines
PublicationWe consider the problem of scheduling n identical jobs on 3 uniform machines with speeds s1, s2, and s3 to minimize the schedule length. We assume that jobs are subject to some kind of mutual exclusion constraints, modeled by a cubic incompatibility graph. We how that if the graph is 2-chromatic then the problem can be solved in O(n^2) time. If the graph is 3-chromatic, the problem becomes NP-hard even if s1>s2=s3.

On the derivatives $\partial^{2}P_{\nu}(z)/\partial\nu^{2}$ and $\partial Q_{\nu}(z)/\partial\nu$ of the Legendre functions with respect to their degrees
PublicationWe provide closed-form expressions for the degree-derivatives $[\partial^{2}P_{\nu}(z)/\partial\nu^{2}]_{\nu=n}$ and $[\partial Q_{\nu}(z)/\partial\nu]_{\nu=n}$, with $z\in\mathbb{C}$ and $n\in\mathbb{N}_{0}$, where $P_{\nu}(z)$ and $Q_{\nu}(z)$ are the Legendre functions of the first and the second kind, respectively. For $[\partial^{2}P_{\nu}(z)/\partial\nu^{2}]_{\nu=n}$, we find that % \begin{displaymath} \frac{\partial^{2}P_{\nu}(z)}{\partial\nu^{2}}\bigg|_{\nu=n} =-2P_{n}(z)\Li_{2}\frac{1-z}{2}+B_{n}(z)\ln\frac{z+1}{2}+C_{n}(z), \end{displaymath} % where...

Experimental comparison of the transition speed of a hydrodynamic journal bearing lubricated with oil and magnetorheological fluid
PublicationA journal bearing test bench is used to find the transition speed between the hydrodynamic and mixed lubrication regimes for a modified magnetorheological (MR) fluid.
