Novel methods for diagnosis of pulmonary microangiopathy in diabetes mellitus
PublikacjaLung microangiopathy is a little known negative influence of diabetes mellitus on the functioning of the lungs. In current medical practice lung microangiopathy is diagnosed by comparing two measurements of lung diffusing capacity - one with the subject standing and one with the subject lying. The necessity to take two measurements is inconvenient. In lung microangiopathy we observe a reduction of diffusing capacity, lung flow...

Its efficiency as a therapeutic agent depends on its ability to discriminate between mammalian and fungal cell membranes. The association of AmB monomers in an aqueous environment plays an important role in drug selectivity, as oligomers formed prior to membrane insertion – presumably dimers – are believed to act differently on fungal (ergosterol-rich)...

Susceptibility of E. coli was tested against different classes of antibiotics. Isolates resistant to at least one antimicrobial agent were PCR tested for the presence of integrons. Ampicillin-resistant...

Ionic liquids for nano- and microstructures preparation. Part 1: Properties and multifunctional role
PublikacjaIonic liquids (ILs) are a broad group of organic salts of varying structure and properties, used in energy conversion and storage, chemical analysis, separation processes, as well as in the preparation of particles in nano- and microscale. In material engineering, ionic liquids are applied to synthesize mainly metal nanoparticles and 3D semiconductor microparticles. They could generally serve as a structuring agent or as a reaction...

Surface Treatment of Rubber Waste
PublikacjaThis chapter deals with the study of different approaches to improve the compatibility of waste rubber with polymeric matrixes of high density polyethylene (HDPE) by using surface treatments to increase adhesion. Different surface treatments such as etching with sulphuric and nitric acids, the use of a silane as a coupling agent and chlorination with trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCI) have been applied. The modification of waste rubber...

Interrelationship between total volatile organic compounds emissions, structure and properties of natural rubber/polycaprolactone bio-blends cross-linked with peroxides
PublikacjaNatural rubber/polycaprolactone (NR/PCL) bio-based blends with different organic peroxides were prepared using an internal batch mixer and subsequently cross-linked at 170°C. Two types of commonly used organic peroxides, dicumyl peroxide and di(tert-butylperoxyisopropyl)benzene peroxide, were applied as free-radical initiator. Cross-linking efficiency of NR/PCL blends were investigated using oscillating disc rheometer measurements,...

Multi-objective optimization for assessment of topological modification in UWB antennas
PublikacjaThis paper addresses an issue of systematic and rigorous assessment of effects of topological modifications on the performance of compact UWB antennas. Application of fast surrogate-assisted multi-objective optimization procedures allows us for obtaining, in a practically acceptable timeframe, a set of designs representing the best possible trade-offs between conflicting objectives (here, antenna size minimization and reduction...

Determination of leakage inductances of multi-winding and single-phase transformer
PublikacjaThis paper presents the method for determination of leakage inductances of single-phase and multi-winding transformer. The matrix of leakage inductances takes into account leakage self and also leakage mutual magnetic couplings. It is assumed that there is a flux common to all windings and several leakage fluxes referred to a particular winding. The flux linkages of each coil needed fo calculation of leakage inductances was computed...

Thresholding Strategies for Large Scale Multi-Label Text Classifier
PublikacjaThis article presents an overview of thresholding methods for labeling objects given a list of candidate classes’ scores. These methods are essential to multi-label classification tasks, especially when there are a lot of classes which are organized in a hierarchy. Presented techniques are evaluated using the state-of-the-art dedicated classifier on medium scale text corpora extracted from Wikipedia. Obtained results show that the...

Low-Cost EM-Simulation-Driven Multi-Objective Optimization of Antennas
PublikacjaA surrogate-based method for efficient multi-objective antenna optimization is presented. Our technique exploits response surface approximation (RSA) model constructed from sampled low-fidelity antenna model (here, obtained through coarse-discretization EM simulation). The RSA model enables fast determination of the best available trade-offs between conflicting design goals. A low-cost RSA model construction is possible through...

Constrained multi-objective optimization of compact microwave circuits by design triangulation and pareto front interpolation
PublikacjaDevelopment of microwave components is an inherently multi-objective task. This is especially pertinent to the design closure stage, i.e., final adjustment of geometry and/or material parameters carried out to improve the electrical performance of the system. The design goals are often conflicting so that the improvement of one normally leads to a degradation of others. Compact microwave passives constitute a representative case:...
