Presence of antibiotics in the aquatic environment in Europe and their analytical monitoring: Recent trends and perspectives
PublikacjaThe presence of antibiotics and their metabolites in the aquatic environment exerts a negative impact on all organisms. Moreover, the easy migration of these substances to drinking water may also have serious consequences for public health, such as drug resistance. Although antibiotics and their metabolites are detected in surface waters and wastewater, there are still no systemic solutions preventing environmental pollution with...

Detection of Toxoplasma gondii oocysts in environmental samples
PublikacjaToxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that has capacity to infect warm-blooded animals. Human toxoplasmosis is usually asymptomatic, whereas severe complications may occur in immunocompromised patients (e.g. AIDS) or in case of congenitalinfection. One of the sources of acquiring human toxoplasmosis is ingestion of T. gondii oocysts. It is known that newly infected cats can shed millions of oocysts into the environment,...

A critical review on electrospun membranes containing 2D materials for seawater desalination
PublikacjaElectrospun nanofibers are a cutting-edge class of membranes which have been applied in several molecular separations. These membranes can be well designed and tailored due to the versatility of the electrospinning process. Eminently, electrospun membranes, once implemented in membrane processes, are an alternative in removing salts and some other minerals from water, so-called desalination, for producing drinking water. Such membranes...

Determination of parent and methylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in water samples by dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction–two dimensional gas chromatography–time-of-flight mass spectrometry
PublikacjaPolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are contaminants frequently found in environmental waters. Owing to their toxic effects, it is important to develop analytical methodologies that allow their fast and reliable determination. Dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) allows a quick extraction of analytes with little organic solvent consumption. The best results regarding sample preparation are obtained when 40 mL of...

Multi-objective optimization of water quality, pumps operation, and storage sizing of water distribution systems
PublikacjaA multi-objective methodology utilizing the Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm (SPEA2) linked to EPANET for trading-off pumping costs, water quality, and tanks sizing of water distribution systems is developed and demonstrated. The model integrates variable speed pumps for modeling the pumps operation, two water quality objectives (one based on chlorine disinfectant concentrations and one on water age), and tanks sizing cost...

Waste materials assessment for phosphorus adsorption toward sustainable application in circular economy
PublikacjaPhosphorus is the main determinant of nutrient enrichment in the water bodies. Many resources including nutrients may be shortly exhausted, assuming current consumption. This scenario leads to growing interest in resources recovery and/or reuse, which together with sustainable energy consumption and waste reduction are the main courses of the circular economy. Usage of coagulants in wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) does not allow...

Przygotowanie, realizacja i ocena pomiarów terenowych do identyfikacji oporności hydraulicznej sieci wodociągowej
PublikacjaW procesie tworzenia komputerowego modelu przepływów (KMP) jednym z wiodących zadań jest przygotowanie i realizacja pomiarów terenowych w celu identyfikacji oporności hydraulicznej czynnej sieci wodociągowej. Motywacją autora do przedstawienia zasad postępowania w tym zakresie jest narastająca niefrasobliwość twórców KMP, którzy w nieuprawniony sposób używają paramodeli do rozwiązywania problemów inżynierskich. W pracy zdefiniowano...

Review of the determination of modern used pesticides in water samples
PublikacjaThe increasingly widespread application of pesticides causes that larger amounts of them are entering the environment. Their presence in sources of drinking water, essential to life, is a particular danger. For these reasons it is important to monitor and analyse pesticide residues in the environment. The analysis of environmental samples for the presence of pesticides is very difficult. Firstly, the processes involved in sample...

The protection and monitoring of a distribution piping network for potable water supply
PublikacjaPurpose – The purpose of this paper is to implement the corrosion protection method for steel pipes used in a municipal water-pipe network. Results of an inhibitor protection system installed on the system are presented. Inhibitor protection was required due to the high corrosivity of the water collected by a surface intake, which had resulted in a large number of failures and low water quality, due to the presence of corrosion...

Multiobjective Water Distribution Systems Control of Pumping Cost, Water Quality, and Storage-Reliability Constraints
PublikacjaThis work describes a multiobjective model for trading-off pumping cost and water quality for water distribution systems operation. Constraints are imposed on flows and pressures, on periodical tanks operation, and on tanks storage. The methodology links the multiobjective SPEA2 algorithm with EPANET, and is applied on two example applications of increasing complexity, under extended period simulation conditions and variable energy...

Badania połączeń spawanych rurociągu wody pitnej we Włocławku, ang. Welding joints tests in drinking water pipeline.
PublikacjaCelem badań opisanych w pracy było określenie przyczyn korozji powstałej w strefie wpływu ciepła (SWC) w obwodowych połączeniach spawanych w rurociągu wody pitnej. Materiałem, z którego wykonano rurociąg to stal 304/304L. W obszarze złącza spawanego stwierdzono wżery inicjowane od niezgodności geometrycznych, gdzie mogły gromadzić się osady zwiększające udział chlorków bezpośrednio przy powierzchni rury, promujące tym procesy korozyjne....

Whirling system of water exchangein breeding pools
PublikacjaTo secure the proper conditions of life for sea mammals existing in closed systems one has to maintain the character of the breeding basins (i.e. shape, dimensions, facing of walls and bottom, quality and motion of water) as natural as possible. An appropriate system of water exchange plays a very important role here. A full renewal of water is time-consuming, expensive and troublesome, so can be made only periodically, and should...
