A Single-Carrier-Based Pulse-Width Modulation Template for Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverters
PublicationMultiplicity of the triangular carrier signals is a criterion for the extension of sinusoidal pulsewidth modulation, SPWM, to a number of output voltage levels per phase-leg in cascaded H-bridge (CHB) multilevel inverter (MLI). Considering medium and high voltage applications where appreciable number of output voltage levels from CHB MLI is needed, commensurate high number of carrier signals in either classical level- or phase-shifted...

High Efficiency Dual-Active-Bridge Converter with Triple-Phase-Shift Control for Battery Charger of Electric Vehicles
PublicationAn optimal modulation scheme with triple-phase-shift (TPS) control could increase the efficiency in the entire load range for a dual-active-bridge (DAB) converter under wide output voltage range conditions. Therefore, this study proposes a convergent approach to TPS mode selection, coupled with an optimal modulation scheme, ensuring the circuit’s efficiency over the entire range in the realm of a high-power and high-efficiency...

Balancing energy consumption in limited power grid with active front-end and three phase dual active bridge system
PublicationPaper deals with simulation analysis of bidirectional power converters system for charging station of electric vehicle in condition of limited power source in city infrastructure. In case of incapability to provide additional power supply through the grid by virtue of historical, architectural and economic reasons it is possible to solve this issue by implementation of mobile battery-powered supply source. The proposed bidirectional...

The Bridge to Knowledge – Open Access to Scientific Research Results on Multidisciplinary Open System Transferring Knowledge Platform
PublicationThe European policy of Open Access to scientific research is now one of the key issues discussed in public debates on the future development of scientific communication. The implementation of Open Access tools has significant impact on scientific and economic growth. On the one hand, Open Access accelerates disseminating new research findings and facilitates recognition of authors on a more global scale. On the other hand, Open...

Structure and the space vector modulation for a medium-voltage power-electronic-transformer based on two seven-level cascade H-bridge inverters
PublicationThis study presents the structure and the space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) for power electronic transformer (PET) based on two seven-level cascade H-bridge (CHB) inverters. The DC links of CHB inverters are coupled with nine dual-active bridge (DAB) converters with medium-frequency transformers. The DC-link voltages are equalised with two methods – through the control of DAB voltages...

Concrete-filled FRP tubular members in marine and bridge structures
PublicationConcrete core of the concrete-filled tubes (CFTs) with circular cross-section is in the case of an axial compression subjected to a spatial state of compressive stresses. This state leads to enhancement in the concrete strength. The enhancement is utilized in Eurocode 4 design procedures for CFSTs (i.e. CFTs with tube made of steel). The structural design of CFFTs (i.e. CFTs with tube made of Fibre Reinforced Polymer - FRP) is...

Numerical Simulation of Open Channel Flow between Bridge Piers
PublicationPrzedstawiono dwuwymiarowy model przepływu wody płytkiej, który wykorzystano do symulacji przepływu wody w kanale otwartym w rejonie przekroju mostowego. Równania przepływu rozwiązano metodą objętości skończonych. Wyniki symulacji ruchu wody pomiędzy filarami mostowymi porównano z pomiarami laboratoryjnymi przeprowadzonymi w Laboratorium Hydrauliki i Inżynierii Środowiska politechniki Gdańskiej. Zgodność uzyskanych wyników obliczeń...

Conjugated control of triple active bridge converter with common HFT
PublicationPaper presents synthetic analyses of single input, dual output DC/AC/DC converter with common high frequency transformer. Rise the problem of cross-coupling power flows between secondary terminals, under asymmetrical control operating condition. It also proposes a new approach to converter control, based on conjugated phase shift modulation and defines its limitations. Finally, the developed control technique was verified by simulation...

Investigation of stability and limit load of a truss overhead opened bridge
PublicationThe paper presents selected methods of determining stability and limit load of a truss top chord in opened bridges. These methods include linear buckling and non-linear static analysis based on the finite element method and algorithms based on design code procedures. The described methods were tested on an example of a steel footbridge situated in Straszyn. The results of stability analysis are compared. The results of geometrical...

Pounding Between Superstructure Segments in Multi-Supported Elevated Bridge with Three-Span Continuous Deck Under 3D Non-Uniform Earthquake Excitation
PublicationReports after severe ground motions show that the earthquake-induced structural pounding may lead to significant damage in elevated bridges. The aim of this paper is to analyse pounding between superstructure segments of a highway elevated bridge with three-span continuous deck under 3D non-uniform earthquake excitation, which is induced by spatial seismic effects related to the propagation of seismic wave. The conditional stochastic...

The Bridge of Knowledge – defining and implementing national Open Access policy by Polish universities. Gdansk University of Technology perspective
PublicationThe European Commission states that Open Access to scientific resources funded by the European Union shall facilitate the use of research results financed from the public funds. Moreover, it will cause an increase in the innovative capacity of Europe. The Open Access landscape is determined by several factors such as mandates. The open mandate may be voluntary or mandatory and implemented at the institutional, national or international...
