On the Nonlinea Distortions of Sound and its Coupling with Other Modes in a Gasesous Plasma with Finite Electric Conductivity in a Magnetic Field
PublicationNonlinear phenomena of the planar and quasi-planar magnetoacoustic waves are considered. We focus on deriving of equations which govern nonlinear excitation of the non-wave motions by the intense sound in initially static gaseous plasma. Magnetoacoustic...

PublicationThe uniform magnetic field of the Earth in the surrounding of a mobile, metallic object undergoes deformation by eddy currents. The influence of the moving, conducting object on the Earth's total magnetic field depends on the object's shape, position and speed of the changes relative to the magnetic field vector of the Earth, as well as the electric conductivity and the relative magnetic permeability of the material. Disturbances...

Influence of magnetic field on wear in high frequency reciprocatingsliding contacts
PublicationResults of experimental studies concerning the influence of permanent magnetic field on wear of dry sliding contact operating at short stroke and high frequency are presented. It was found that horizontal magnetic field with different orientations relative to the sliding direction is affecting performance of the contact. The increase in frequency of sliding reduces accumulated mass loss and lowers the surface roughness of the wear...

Finite element models used in diagnostics of transverse cracks in bridge approach pavement
Open Research DataTransverse cracks in the asphalt pavement were observed on bridge structures next to single-module expansion joints with a 5 meter approach slab set at the depth of 1 m. The finite element (FE) models of the approach pavement were created to investigate the reasons of premature cracking and crack initiation mechanism over the back edge of the abutment...

Efficient Finite Element Analysis of Axially Symmetrical Waveguides and Waveguide Discontinuities
PublicationA combination of the body-of-revolution and finite element methods is adopted for full-wave analysis of waveguides and waveguide discontinuities involving angular field variation. Such an approach is highly efficient and much more flexible than analytical techniques. The method is performed in two different cases: utilizing a generalized impedance matrix to determine the scattering parameters of a single waveguide section and utilizing...

A higher order transversely deformable shell-type spectral finite element for dynamic analysis of isotropic structures
PublicationThis paper deals with certain aspects related to the dynamic behaviour of isotropic shell-like structures analysed by the use of a higher order transversely deformable shell-type spectral finite element newly formulated and the approach known as the Time-domain Spectral Finite Element Method (TD-SFEM). Although recently this spectral approach is reported in the literature as a very powerful numerical tool used to solve various...

Maximum transportation growth in energy and solute particles in Prandtl martial across a vertical 3D-heated surface: Simulations achieved using by finite element approach
PublicationThe goal of this study is to determine the maximum energy and solute particles' transportation growth in a 3D-heated region of Prandtl martial through a dynamic magnetic field. The effects of this field on the properties of solvent molecules and heat conduction are studied. A correctly stated functional method and a finite element approach are comparable to a certain type of differential equations. In order demonstrate the effects...

Fourier transforms on Cantor sets: A study in non-Diophantine arithmetic and calculus
PublicationFractals equipped with intrinsic arithmetic lead to a natural definition of differentiation, integration, and complex structure. Applying the formalism to the problem of a Fourier transform on fractals we show that the resulting transform has all the required basic properties. As an example we discuss a sawtooth signal on the ternary middle-third Cantor set. The formalism works also for fractals that are not self-similar.

Accuracy, Memory and Speed Strategies in GPU-based Finite-Element Matrix-Generation
PublicationThis paper presents strategies on how to optimize GPU-based finite-element matrix-generation that occurs in the finite-element method (FEM) using higher order curvilinear elements. The goal of the optimization is to increase the speed of evaluation and assembly of large finite-element matrices on a single GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) while maintaining the accuracy of numerical integration at the desired level. For this reason,...

Special Issue "Applications of Finite Element Modeling for Mechanical and Mechatronic Systems"
PublicationNumerical modeling is very important in today's engineering because, among other things, it reduces the costs associated with prototyping or predicting the occurrence of potentially dangerous situations during operation in certain defined conditions. Different methods have so far been used to implement the real structure into the numerical version. The most popular have been variations of the finite element method (FEM). The aim...

Atomic-Scale Finite-Element Modeling of Elastic Mechanical Anisotropy in Finite-Sized Strained Phosphorene Nanoribbons
PublicationNanoribbons are crucial nanostructures due to their superior mechanical and electrical properties. This paper is devoted to hybrid studies of the elastic mechanical anisotropy of phosphorene nanoribbons whose edges connect the terminals of devices such as bridges. Fundamental mechanical properties, including Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, and density, were estimated from first-principles calculations for 1-layer, 3-layer, and...

The selection of a grinding process for a particular application depends on part shape, part size, ease of fixture, requirements concerning the acceptable shape errors. It is evident that lapping is very effective in eliminating the waviness while surface grinding is not. Dual disk machines for the double face grinding with planetary kinematics...

We consider periodic flux tubes and find various restrictions on the field lines that come from the sequence of fixed point indices of iterations. We also analyze the case of a tube with a cylindrical obstacle, deducing some special dynamical properties...
