Does one currency mean one price?
PublicationEuropean Monetary Union was expected to have many consequences for the economies of participant countries. Theory suggested that through a higher volume of trade and stronger competition in the Eurozone, a single currency would lead to a reduction in price dispersion. As far as prices are concerned, two effects were expected: an immediate effect due to the technical characteristics of the changeover process, and a long-term one...

A place of school in the idea of the sustainable development
PublicationWell designed school space enables social contacts, increases activity of pupils and improves the condition of their health. However, the best design would not bring the expected benefits if it is not integrated with the surroundings in terms of transportation, security and local needs. In the sustainable development, the social goals are in harmony with ecological aims according to the rule of "3 r" (reduce, reuse, recycle).

Nodal cooperation equilibrium analysis in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks with a reputation system
PublicationMotivated by the concerns of cooperation security, this work examines selected principles of state-of-the-art reputation systems for multi-hop ad hoc networks and their impact upon optimal strategies for rational nodes. An analytic framework is proposed and used for identification of effective cooperation-enforcement schemes. It is pointed out that optimum rather than high reputation can be expected to be sought by rational nodes.

Capacitively coupled ECG measurements - a CMRR circuit improvement
PublicationA typical galvanic-connected electrocardiogram (ECG) measurement system utilizes two signal’s electrodes and a third one in driven-right-leg (DRL) circuit for improving a common-mode rejection ratio(CMRR) of the acquisition system. In capacitive-coupled ECG similar techniques are used, however it is expected, that the utilized DRL subsystem is formed using a capacitive coupling approach, too. An improvement of the acquisition system...

Antagonist adhesion effects due to variable substrate surface
PublicationThe effects of variability of intrinsic adhesion within a joint have been studied using a single cantilever beam (SCB) test. Fracture energy was found not to be a simple function of relative areas of 2 surface pre-treatments: a 'weak' zone decreased strength more than expected from simple, additive considerations. By severing the adhesive along the strong-weak transition, fracture energy increased. The prior antagonist effect appears...

Application of Multiplicative Drift Correction and Component Correction methods on simulated gas sensor array responses
PublicationSensor response drift is one of the most challenging problems in gas-analyzing systems. Such systems, commonly called electronic noses, are expected to be reliable and reproducible in the long term. Smart Karyotyping Image Selection Based on Commonsense Knowledge Reasoning
PublicationKaryotyping requires chromosome instances to be segmented and classified from the metaphase images. One of the difficulties in chromosome segmentation is that the chromosomes are randomly positioned in the image, and there is a great chance for chromosomes to be touched or overlap with others. It is always much easier for operators and automatic programs to tackle images without overlapping chromosomes than ones with largely overlapped...
