Resource constrained neural network training
PublikacjaModern applications of neural-network-based AI solutions tend to move from datacenter backends to low-power edge devices. Environmental, computational, and power constraints are inevitable consequences of such a shift. Limiting the bit count of neural network parameters proved to be a valid technique for speeding up and increasing efficiency of the inference process. Hence, it is understandable that a similar approach is gaining...

Systems, Environments, and Soliton Rate Equations: Toward Realistic Modeling
PublikacjaIn order to solve a system of nonlinear rate equations one can try to use some soliton methods. Arithmetic Loophole in Bell's Theorem: Overlooked Threat to Entangled-State Quantum Cryptography

This has led to a variety of public policy measures, such as subsidies on community provision,...

Investigating Feature Spaces for Isolated Word Recognition
PublikacjaThe study addresses the issues related to the appropriateness of a two-dimensional representation of speech signal for speech recognition tasks based on deep learning techniques. The approach combines Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and time-frequency signal representation converted to the investigated feature spaces. In particular, waveforms and fractal dimension features of the signal were chosen for the time domain, and...

Quantum structure in competing lizard communities
PublikacjaAlmost two decades of research on applications of the mathematical formalism of quantum theory as a modeling tool in domains different from the micro-world has given rise to many successful applications in situations related to human behavior and thought, more specifically in cognitive processes of decision-making and the ways concepts are combined into sentences. In this article, we extend this approach to animal behavior, showing...

Urban flash flood hazard identification and assessment applying geospatial techniques and hydrodynamic modeling; Erbil city case study, Kurdistan Region of Iraq
PublikacjaThis dissertation aims to investigate the factors behind flash flooding in Erbil's central district, located in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and develop a methodology for assessing flood hazards in the city, despite limited data accessibility. In this thesis, each factor was investigated, including analyzing extreme precipitation events in the last two decades, including their spatial and temporal distribution of rainfall, intensity,...

Optimal detection observers based on eigenstructure assignment. W: FaultDiagnosis. Models, artificial intelligence, applications. Ed. J. Korbicz, J.M. Kościelny, Z. Kowalczuk, W. Cholewa. Berlin: Springer Verlag**2004 s. 219-259, 7 rys. bibliogr. 41 poz.

Application of Intelligent Conversational Agents in E-learing Environments
PublikacjaThe paper concerns intelligent tutoring systems and concentrates on apliaction of virtual mentors in distance learning environments. Different educational agent types are described. The prototype of an agent developed at Gdansk University of Technology is also presented, as well as its internal representation and construction. Benefits of virtual mentors applied in distance learning are also pointed out.

Methodology of Affective Intervention Design for Intelligent Systems
PublikacjaThis paper concerns how intelligent systems should be designed to make adequate, valuable and natural affective interventions. The article proposes a process for choosing an affective intervention model for an intelligent system. The process consists of 10 activities that allow for step-by-step design of an affective feedback loop and takes into account the following factors: expected and desired emotional states, characteristics...

Is it too late now to say we’re sorry? Examining anxiety contagion and crisis communication strategies using machine learning
PublikacjaIn this paper, we explore the role of perceived emotions and crisis communication strategies via organizational computer-mediated communication in predicting public anxiety, the default crisis emotion. We use a machine-learning approach to detect and predict anxiety scores in organizational crisis announcements on social media and the public’s responses to these posts. We also control for emotional and language tones in organizational...

Spectral Clustering Wikipedia Keyword-Based search Results
PublikacjaThe paper summarizes our research in the area of unsupervised categorization of Wikipedia articles. As a practical result of our research, we present an application of spectral clustering algorithm used for grouping Wikipedia search results. The main contribution of the paper is a representation method for Wikipedia articles that has been based on combination of words and links and used for categoriation of search results in this...

Nonlinear secondary arc model use for evaluation of single pole auto-reclosing effectiveness
PublikacjaPurpose – The purpose of this paper is to discuss two evaluation methods of single pole autoreclosing process effectiveness in HV transmission lines. Secondary arc current and recovery voltage results obtained by load flow calculation are compared to the results obtained by the time domain simulations. Moreover, a nonlinear secondary arc implementation is presented. Design/methodology/approach – A computer simulation studies were...

On deterministic procedures for low-cost multi-objective design optimization of miniaturized impedance matching transformers
PublikacjaPurpose This paper aims to investigate deterministic strategies for low-cost multi-objective design optimization of compact microwave structures, specifically, impedance matching transformers. The considered methods involve surrogate modeling techniques and variable-fidelity electromagnetic (EM) simulations. In contrary to majority of conventional approaches, they do not rely on population-based metaheuristics, which permit lowering...

Experience Visualizaton
PublikacjaSet of Experience Knowledge Structure (SOEKS) has proved its capability of storing substantial part of experience at a particular decision point. The management of SOEKS record is also proposed in many papers for example referring to concepts of Decisional DNA knowledge representation, that is a collection of a number of SOEKS. The aim of this paper is to focus on visualization and practical aspects of presenting gathered knowledge...
