Design Analysis of Micro Gas Turbines in Closed Cycles
PublikacjaThe problems faced by designers of micro-turbines are connected with a very small volume flow rate of working media which leads to small blades’ height and high rotor speed. In the case of gas turbines this limitation can be overcome by the application of a closed cycle with very low pressure at the compressor inlet (lower than atmospheric pressure). In this way we may apply a micro gas turbine unit of accepted efficiency to work...

Novel structure and EM-driven design of miniaturized microstrip rat-race coupler
PublikacjaIn this paper, a novel structure and design procedure of a miniaturized microstrip rat-race coupler (RRC) is described. Small size of the RRC is achieved by folding the transmission lines of the conventional circuit into its interior, as well as by implementation of the structure on three layers. The final size of the coupler realized for the operating frequency of 1 GHz is only 220 mm2, which gives over 95% footprint reduction...

CONCRETE MIX DESIGN USING ABRAMS AND BOLOMEY METHODS
PublikacjaOne way to reduce the consumption of cement is to optimize its use. Many known methods of concrete design, based on the Abrams law and the Bolomey method. Therefore, the authors chose those methods for analysis. The concrete composition with the assumed strength class, calculated by any method differs significantly. This applies especially to the cement content, as its content in the composition of concrete varies from 20 to 50%....

Design of High-Performance Scattering Metasurfaces through Optimization-Based Explicit RCS Reduction
PublikacjaThe recent advances in the development of coding metasurfaces created new opportunities in realization of radar cross section (RCS) reduction. Metasurfaces, composed of optimized geometries of meta-atoms arranged as periodic lattices, are devised to obtain desired electromagnetic (EM) scattering characteristics. Despite potential benefits, their rigorous design methodologies are still lacking, especially in the context of controlling...

DESIGN AND THEORETICAL ANALYSIS OF A PROTOTYPE TILTING-PAD RADIAL BEARING WITH ADJUSTABLE CLEARANCE
PublikacjaThe article introduces a design and analysis results of a prototype ORC (organic Rankine cycle) turbo generator rotor assembly of 300kW power, supported by tilting-pad bearings of original design. The calculations were performed for a prototype turbo generator rotor. The shaft of this machine is supported with two radial bearings, lubricated with an unusual lubricant – a low-boiling-point agent. The main objective of the presented...

Design of a Planar UWB Dipole Antenna with an Integrated Balun Using Surrogate-Based Optimization
PublikacjaA design of an ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with an integrated balun is presented. A fully planar balun configuration interfacing the microstrip input of the structure to the coplanar stripline (CPS) input of the dipole antenna is introduced. The electromagnetic (EM) model of the structure of interest includes the dipole, the balun, and the microstrip input to account for coupling and radiation effects over the UWB band. The EM...

Arch footbridge over Warta river in Wronki - design and construction
PublikacjaThe paper presents the concept of dynamic redesign of lively footbridge. The goal was to reduce probable dynamic excitation and change detailed structural concept. After the complex study the new design was created. In effect completely new static and dynamic properties were reached. Static and dynamic assumptions are explainde. General information, photos and drawings are presented. The final price of the project amounted to 1.25...

Statistical analysis and robust design of circularly polarized antennas using sequential approximate optimization
PublikacjaIn the paper, reliable yield estimation and tolerance-aware design optimization of circular polarization (CP) antennas is discussed. We exploit auxiliary kriging interpolation models established in the vicinity of the nominal design in order to speed up the process of statistical analysis of the antenna structure at hand. Sequential approximate optimization is then applied to carry out robust design of the antenna, here, oriented...

Optimal shape design of multi-element trawl-doors using local surrogate models
PublikacjaTrawl-doors have a large influence on the fuel consumption of fishing vessels. Design and optimiza-tion of trawl-doors using computational models are a key factor in minimizing the fuel consump-tion. This paper presents an optimization algorithm for the shape design of trawl-door shapes using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) models. Accurate CFD models are computationally expensive. Therefore, the direct use of traditional optimization...

A new approach to a fast and accurate design of microwave circuits with complex topologies
PublikacjaA robust simulation-driven design methodology of microwave circuits with complex topologies has been presented. The general method elaborated is suitable for a wide class of N-port unconventional microwave circuits constructed as a deviation from classic design solutions. The key idea of the approach proposed lies in an iterative redesign of a conventional circuit by a sequential modification and optimisation of its atomic building...

City scan as a tool to assess resilience challenges and vulnerabilities at the community level
PublikacjaThe majority of the world’s population lives in cities and cities are the key to achieving resilience. Local governments own only part of the land and can only partially decide about measures that should be taken ‘on the ground’. Local governments are therefore highly dependent on individuals, communities, and businesses to adapt and transform and take action in their own backyards or neighbourhoods. Since, for many people, climate...

Quadratic stochastic operators as a tool in modelling the dynamics of a distribution of a population trait
PublikacjaQuadratic stochastic operators can exhibit a wide variety of asymptotic behaviours and these have been introduced and studied recently. In the present work we discuss biological interpretations that can be attributed to them. We also propose a computer simulation method to illustrate the behaviour of iterates of quadratic stochastic operators.
