Surface sliding in human abdominal wall numerical models: Comparison of single-surface and multi-surface composites
PublikacjaDetermining mechanical properties of abdominal soft tissues requires a coupled experimental-numerical study, but first an appropriate numerical model needs to be built. Precise modeling of human abdominal wall mechanics is difficult because of its complicated multi-layer composition and large variation between specimens. There are several approaches concerning simplification of numerical models, but it is unclear how far one could...

Application of mesh deformation for modeling of conformal RF components with 3D FEM
PublikacjaIn this paper, a method of analysis of conformal RF components has been proposed. In this approach, modeling of a curved structure is based on mesh deformation of planar objects rather than the construction of conformal geometry at CSG level. Since the model is represented as a 3D mesh, the deformation only requires the calculation of nodes position in the bent structure. The results of the proposed algorithm have been validated...

Assessment of the Accuracy of a Virtual Multi-Channel Temperature Measuring Instrument
PublikacjaThe multi-channel temperature measurement system developed works with NTC thermistors. The article presents the results of theoretical and empirical evaluation of accuracy obtained in measurement channels. The basis for the theoretical assessment is the mathematical model for each of the measurement channels and the characteristics of the system elements included in the circuits of the measurement channel. Two different methods were...

Simple multi-laminate model for soft soils incorporating structural anisotropy and destructuration

Multi-agent graph searching and exploration algorithms
PublikacjaA team of mobile entities, which we refer to as agents or searchers interchangeably, starting from homebases needs to complete a given task in a graph. The goal is to build a strategy, which allows agents to accomplish their task. We analyze strategies for their effectiveness (e.g., the number of used agents, the total number of performed moves by the agents or the completion time).Currently, the fields of on-line (i.e., agents...

Modeling Object Oriented Systems via Controlled English Verbalization of Description Logic
PublikacjaThe need for formal methods for Object Oriented (OO) systems resulted in methods like UML and Lepus3 that are de-facto graphical languages equipped with formal tools that are able to handle the design of OO systems. However, they lack precise semantics which might lead to problems, such as inconsistencies or redundancies. On the other hand, to our knowledge, there is no approach that allows one to understand and follow the requirements...

Determinants of the Internationalization of Family Firms - a Structural Eqquation Modeling Analysis
PublikacjaCurrently, international behaviors of family businesses (FBs) attract a growing interest of researchers. In an increasingly competitive environment, numerous FBs are forced to expand into foreign markets in search for ways to survive or grow. The article is both theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical part it presents theoretical concepts of FBs internationalization, especially determinants for their going international....

Applicability of an effective conductivity approach in modeling thoracic impedance changes
PublikacjaThis paper describes numerical simulations of the influence of conductivity changes inside a volume conductor on impedance changes measured on its surface. A simple model based on the finite element method has been developed to estimate an applicability of the effective conductivity theory in human chest modeling. The model consisted of a cylinder with two concentric spheres inside. Simulations were performed for two cases: first...

Modeling and Evaluation of Electric Treeing Phenomena in Polymeric Cable Insulation
PublikacjaThis paper investigates the treeing phenomenon in polymeric materials such as crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) that is widely used in medium and high voltage power cables as primary insulation. The modeling of electrical tree growth in the insulation from its initiation to breakdown is significant research work that illustrates the discharge dynamics and its impact on aging process in polymeric insulation. This study utilizes pulse...

Multi-Agent Signal Filtering for Electrical Energy Demand Management
PublikacjaConsumers participating in electrical energy Demand Response (DR) programs may be exposed to energy-use related decisions at instants of time which are generally hard to predict. This is especially cumbersome to residential consumers who are less capable of investing in special equipment, or devoting significant time to analyze information and take decisions. To ease residential consumer participation, a multi-agent system proposed...

Gender approaches to evolutionary multi-objective optimization using pre-selection of criteria
PublikacjaA novel idea to perform evolutionary computations (ECs) for solving highly dimensional multi-objective optimization (MOO) problems is proposed. Following the general idea of evolution, it is proposed that information about gender is used to distinguish between various groups of objectives and identify the (aggregate) nature of optimality of individuals (solutions). This identification is drawn out of the fitness of individuals...

Task Assignments in Logistics by Adaptive Multi-Criterion Evolutionary Algorithm with Elitist Selection
PublikacjaAn evolutionary algorithm with elitist selection has been developed for finding Pareto-optimal task assignments in logistics. A multi-criterion optimization problem has been formulated for finding a set of Pareto- optimal solutions. Three criteria have been applied for evaluation of task assignment: the workload of a bottleneck machine, the cost of machines, and the numerical performance of system. The machine constraints have...

Rough Set Based Modeling and Visualization of the Acoustic Field Around the Human Head
PublikacjaThe presented research aims at modeling acoustical wave propagation phenomena by applying rough set theory in a novel manner. In a typical listening environment sound intensity is determined by numerous factors: a distance from a sound source, signal levels and frequencies, obstacles’ locations and sizes. Contrarily, a free-field is characterized by direct, unimpeded propagation of the acoustical waves. The proposed approach is...
