The chapter analyses the K-Means algorithm in its parallel setting. We provide detailed description of the algorithm as well as the way we paralellize the computations. We identified complexity of the particular steps of the algorithm that allows us to build the algorithm model in MERPSYS system. The simulations with the MERPSYS have been performed for different size of the data as well as for different number of the processors used for the computations. The results we got using the model have been compared to the results obtained from real computational environment.

Topological modifications for performance improvement and size reduction of wideband antenna structures
PublicationCompact antennas belong to the key components of modern communication systems. Their miniaturization is often achieved by introducing appropriate topological changes such as simple ground plane slots or tapered feeds. More sophisticated modifications are rarely considered in the literature because they normally lead to significant increase of the number of tunable parameters, which makes the antenna design process more challenging....

The methods are based on phase analysis of a complex function in the characteristic equation of a digital filter. It allows for evaluating stability when a characteristic equation is not based on a polynomial. The operation of these methods relies on sampling the unit circle on the complex plane and extracting the phase quadrant of a function...

Detekcja i lokalizacja nieprzewodzenia tranzystorów falownika napięcia na podstawie analizy prądu obciążenia
PublicationPrzedstawiono nową metodę detekcji i lokalizacji nieprzewodzenia tranzystorów w falownikach napięcia zasilających silniki indukcyjne małej mocy. Metoda bazuje na monitorowaniu wartości dwóch sygnałów dia-gnostycznych. Pierwszy z nich, wskaźnik braku przepływu prądu, wykorzystano w celu detekcji uszkodzeń. Drugi, stosunek wartości średniej prądu do wartości średniej bezwzględnej, zawiera informacje umożliwiające lokalizację uszkodzonych...

A novel genetic approach to provide differentiated levels of service resilience in IP-MPLS/WDM networks
PublicationThis paper introduces a novel class-based method of survivable routing for connection-oriented IP-MPLS/WDM networks, called MLS-GEN-H. The algorithm is designed to provide differentiated levels of service survivability in order to respond to varying requirements of end-users. It divides the complex problem of survivable routing in IP-MPLS/WDM networks into two subproblems, one for each network layer, which enables finding the...

Lower rim substituted p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene; Part 14. Synthesis, structures and binding studies of calix[4]arene thioamides
PublicationA number of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene thioamides were synthesized and characterized by 1H-NMR and elemental analysis. Compounds 1-5 are O-substituted derivatives with -CH2-C(=S)-N-X groups, where NX = morpholidyl, NEt2, NHC2H4Ph, NHCH2Ph and NHEt,respectively. The X-ray structures of the ligands 1, 3, 5 and of the complex 3Pb(ClO4)2, (compound 6), are presented and their slightly distorted cone conformation is established. The...

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS – WHAT MAKES THEM DIFFERENT FROM BUSINESS UNDERTAKERS
PublicationSocial entrepreneurs, very often operate with highly limited resources, not to say with virtually nothing. They possess motivation, but apart from financial or technical resources very often they also need complex set of skills, especially those connected with leadership. Social entrepreneurship is similar to business entrepreneurship in many way, however there are some differences. Both similarities and differences can be find...

Deep compaction control of sandy soils
PublicationVibroflotation, vibratory compaction, micro-blasting or heavy tamping are typical improvement methods for the cohesionless deposits of high thickness. The complex mechanism of deep soil compaction is related to void ratio decrease with grain rearrangements, lateral stress increase, prestressing effect of certain number of load cycles, water pressure dissipation, aging and other effects. Calibration chamber based interpretation...

Deep-Learning-Based Precise Characterization of Microwave Transistors Using Fully-Automated Regression Surrogates
PublicationAccurate models of scattering and noise parameters of transistors are instrumental in facilitating design procedures of microwave devices such as low-noise amplifiers. Yet, data-driven modeling of transistors is a challenging endeavor due to complex relationships between transistor characteristics and its designable parameters, biasing conditions, and frequency. Artificial neural network (ANN)-based methods, including deep learning...

Earth wires currents calculation by tableau analysis
PublicationThe paper presents a new method to compute a phase-to-earth fault current distribution in overhead transmission line. The method is based on the tableau analysis of an unbalanced, multi-wire model of a transmission line. It allows for the calculation of current distribution in overhead earth wires along the transmission line. Additionally, it may be used to calculate currents in a tower’s earthing system as well as voltages over...

Validation of a virtual test environment for C2X communication under radio jamming conditions
PublicationIn this paper, we propose a novel car-2-x communication security testing methodology in the physical layer of wireless systems. The approach is dedicated to automated testing of autonomous vehicles and it is essential for such complex systems operation, especially with regard to safety and security issues. It is based on scenario-driven testing in virtual and real test environments created from collected or simulated data. The...

A high-accuracy method of computation of x-ray waves propagation through an optical system consisting of many lenses
PublicationThe propagation of X-ray waves through an optical system consisting of many X-ray refractive lenses is considered. Two differential equations are contemplated for solving the problem for electromagnetic wave propagation: first – an equation for the electric field, second – an equation derived for a complex phase of an electric field. Both equations are solved by the use of a finite-difference method. The simulation error is estimated...

Urban scene semantic segmentation using the U-Net model
PublicationVision-based semantic segmentation of complex urban street scenes is a very important function during autonomous driving (AD), which will become an important technology in industrialized countries in the near future. Today, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) improve traffic safety thanks to the application of solutions that enable detecting objects, recognising road signs, segmenting the road, etc. The basis for these functionalities...

Analysis and design improvement of high class roads’ arched sections in Poland
PublicationAlthough Polish road network standards, in particular higher classes of roads are improving dynamically the number of fatalities on the network is still higher that EU’s average. Ensuring road safety and high maintaining standards is a complex issue and one that poses a major challenge for all road authorities. Road accidents at high speed roads characterize specially serious material and social consequences, thus research into...

Bayesian Optimization for solving high-frequency passive component design problems
PublicationIn this paper, the performance of the Bayesian Optimization (BO) technique applied to various problems of microwave engineering is studied. Bayesian optimization is a novel, non-deterministic, global optimization scheme that uses machine learning to solve complex optimization problems. However, each new optimization scheme needs to be evaluated to find its best application niche, as there is no universal technique that suits all...
