Loosely-Tied Distributed Architecture for Highly Scalable E-Learning System
PublikacjaVast majority of modern e-learning products are based on client-server architecture and utilization of web-based technologies (WBT). Such approach permits easy creation of e-learning systems that do not require a complex, operating system dependant client software. Unfortunately there are also drawbacks of such solution. Because of the majority of mechanisms are located on the server, its usage levels trend to build up quickly...

Analysis of the influence of external conditions on temperature readings in thermograms and adaptive adjustment of the measured temperature value
PublikacjaMeasuring human temperature is a crucial step in preventing the spread of diseases such as COVID-19. For the proper operation of an automatic body temperature measurement system throughout the year, it is necessary to consider outdoor conditions. In this paper, the effect of atmospheric factors on facial temperature readings using infrared thermography is investigated. A thorough analysis of the variation of facial temperature...

The Energy of Finance in Refining of Medical Surge Capacity
PublikacjaThe availability of resources and their concentration in the place of greatest need, will not allow us to successfully overcome a medical surge without the energy required to activate these resources and activities, and increase their quantities if necessary, that is why the staff and management of healthcare institutions are forced to making ethical crisis decisions about who wins and who loses. This study highlights the versatility...

Supply current signal and artificial neural networks in the induction motor bearings diagnostics
PublikacjaThis paper contains research results of the diagnostics of induction motor bearings based on measurement of the supply current with usage of artificial neural networks. Bearing failure amount is greater than 40% of all engine failures, which makes their damage-free operation crucial. Tests were performed on motors with intentionally made bearings defects. Chapter 2 introduces the concept of artificial neural networks. It presents...

Reducing nighttime light exposure in the urban environment to benefit human health and society
PublikacjaNocturnal light pollution can have profound effects on humans and other organisms. Recent research indicates that nighttime outdoor lighting is increasing rapidly. Evidence from controlled laboratory studies demonstrates that nocturnal light exposure can strain the visual system, disrupt circadian physiology, suppress melatonin secretion, and impair sleep. There is a growing body of work pointing to adverse effects of outdoor lighting...

A Highly Scalable, Modular Architecture for Computer Aided Assessment e-Learning Systems
PublikacjaIn this chapter, the authors propose a novel e-learning system, dedicated strictly to knowledge assessment tasks. In its functioning it utilizes web-based technologies, but its design differs radically from currently popular e-learning solutions which rely mostly on thin-client architecture. The authors' research proved that such architecture, while well suited for didactic content distribution systems is ill-suited for knowledge...

High precision and accuracy using low cost GNSS receivers and supporting technologies
PublikacjaThis chapter focuses on methods and techniques of positioning, based on the highly accurate and precise Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), which are available at a relatively low price. In this context, a comparison of different positioning methods provided by the free and open source software (FOSS) package called RTKLIB is given. Other aspects related to price reduction are also considered, including availability and...

Automatic Breath Analysis System Using Convolutional Neural Networks
PublikacjaDiseases related to the human respiratory system have always been a burden for the entire society. The situation has become particularly difficult now after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even now, however, it is not uncommon for people to consult their doctor too late, after the disease has developed. To protect patients from severe disease, it is recommended that any symptoms disturbing the respiratory system be detected...
