Biochemical assays of intensified methane content in biogas from low-temperature processing of waste activated sludge
PublicationAnaerobic digestion (AD) is implemented as an important ‘waste to energy’ approach for converting organic-rich byproducts such as sewage sludge into biogas and nutrient-rich digestate. Sewage sludge consists of primary sludge and waste activated sludge (WAS), and low biodegradability of WAS limits methane production. This study presents the influence of the low-temperature pretreatment (LT-PT) of WAS on the efficiency of AD. Different...

LEVEL OF DETAIL CATEGORIZATION FOR THE APPLICATION IN URBAN DESIGN
PublicationUrban planning and urban design involve complex processes that require detailed information about the visual information of a place at various scales. Different graphic tools, such as game engines, are evolving to use urban representation fields. The concept of "level of detail" (LOD) has been used to categorize the level of detail in AEC applications such as BIM and GML for urban representation models. However, there is a need...

HDAC Inhibitors: Innovative Strategies for Their Design and Applications
PublicationHistone deacetylases (HDACs) are a large family of epigenetic metalloenzymes that are involved in gene transcription and regulation, cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, and death, as well as angiogenesis. Particularly, disorders of the HDACs expression are linked to the development of many types of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, making them interesting molecular targets for the design of new efficient drugs...

Design of a Multidomain IMS/NGN Service Stratum
PublicationThe paper continues our research concerning the Next Generation Network (NGN), which is standardized for delivering multimedia services with strict quality and includes elements of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). A design algorithm for a multidomain IMS/NGN service stratum is proposed, which calculates the necessary CSCF servers CPU message processing times and link bandwidths with respect to the given maximum values of mean...

A method for the three-dimensional and synchronous resolution of functional and spatial matters in architectural design
PublicationThe article discusses the issue of applied methods of teaching architectural design at Polish universities. The authors review the common methods based on conceptual drawings solving design problems in only two dimensions. After completing the floor plans' sketching process carried out in 2D way the 3D virtual models are made - seldom cardboard mock-ups - to illustrate the final spatial form of the designed object. At the Faculty...

Expedited Design Closure of Antenna Input Characteristics by Trust Region Gradient Search and Principal Component Analysis
PublicationOptimization-based parameter tuning has become an inherent part of contemporary antenna design process. For the sake of reliability, it is typically conducted at the level of full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulation models. This may incur considerable computational expenses depending on the cost of an individual EM analysis, the number of adjustable variables, the type of task (local, global, single-/multi-objective optimization),...

Long-term hindcast simulation of sea level in the Baltic Sea
Open Research DataThe dataset contains the results of numerical modelling of sea level fluctuations over a period of 50 years (1958-2007) in the Baltic Sea. A long-term hindcast simulation was performed using a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model PM3D (Kowalewski and Kowalewska-Kalkowska, 2017), a new version of the M3D model (Kowalewski, 1997). The hydrodynamic model...

Ontology of the Design Pattern Language for Smart Cities Systems
PublicationThe paper presents the definition of the design pattern language of Smart Cities in the form of an ontology. Since the implementation of a Smart City system is difficult, expensive and closely linked with the problems concerning a given city, the knowledge acquired during a single implementation is extremely valuable. The language we defined supports the management of such knowledge as it allows for the expression of a solution...

Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation of Gas–Liquid Multiphase Flow in T-junction for CO2 Separation
PublicationThe article presents the results of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of gas-liquid multiphase flow. The simulation was conducted using CFD code and the Euler–Euler approach. The presented study relates to the non–reactive, steady-state, turbulent flow of water and carbon dioxide mixture in a 3D pipe. Separation phenomenon between phases is observed. The solution was obtained using a mixture model. Different values...

Design and implementation of the driver system for Hamamatsu C12880MA microspectrometer
PublicationRecent miniaturization developments in devices for spectroscopy have reduced greatly their costs and increased their availability for a wide range of users and applications. This paper presents the design and implementation of a driver system for a Hamamatsu C12880MA microspectrometer. The system implementation was carried out and compared using two independent microcontroller modules: Arduino Uno and STM32F411RE Nucleo. We assessed...

3D Acoustic Field Intensity Probe Design and Measurements
PublicationThe aim of this paper is two-fold. First, some basic notions on acoustic field intensity and its measurement are shortly recalled. Then, the equipment and the measurement procedure used in the sound intensity in the performed research study are described. The second goal is to present details of the design of the engineered 3D intensity probe, as well as the algorithms developed and applied for that purpose. Results of the intensity...

ASIC Design Example of Complex SoC with FPGA Prototyping
PublicationThe paper presents an example of the System on a Chip design, where the FPGA prototyping has been used. Two FPGA prototypes have been realized. The first FPGA prototype uses AVNET board containing Xilinx Virtex4 device accompanied by custom board with required devices. The second FPGA prototype has been built using the custom PCB with Xilinx Virtex-4 XC4VLX60 FPGA accompanied by all needed external components. The final system...
