In order to determine the basic dynamic properties of the undamaged structure, the free vibration and the sweep-sine tests were first conducted. Then, the model was excited using the time history record of the El Centro earthquake of...

Experimental and theoretical studies on resonance dynamic effects during silo flow.
PublicationPrzedstawiono badania nad rezonansowymi efektami dynamicznymi podczas przepływów silosowych.

Centrifugal magnetic fluid seals
PublicationSeals perform an important and at times overlooked function in a lubricant system. They prevent or minimize the movement of the lubricant between two surfaces and also minimize the level of contamination in the system. Seals are divided into static and dynamic types. Static seals operate in systems where the mating surfaces do not move relative to each other. In contrast, dynamic seals operate under conditions where the mating surfaces...

A simple way of increasing estimation accuracy of generalized adaptive notch filters
PublicationGeneralized adaptive notch filters are used for identification/tracking of quasi-periodically varying dynamic systems and can be considered an extension, to the system case, of classical adaptive notch filters. It is shown that frequency biases, which arisein generalized adaptive notch filtering algorithms, can be significantly reduced by incorporating in the adaptive loop an appropriately chosen decision delay. The resulting performance...

Design of modified PID controllers for 3D crane control
PublicationFrom the control viewpoint, 3D crane is a dynamic, nonlinear and multidimensional electromechanical system. In this paper, five control systems using a set-point weighted PID controllers (modified controllers) are designed. These structures and properties are presented. Optimization process of controllers settings based on integral performance indices is made. Simulation tests of control systems are presented. Comparison of integral...

Seismic response and performance prediction of steel buckling-restrained braced frames using machine-learning methods
PublicationNowadays, Buckling-Restrained Brace Frames (BRBFs) have been used as lateral force-resisting systems for low-, to mid-rise buildings. Residual Interstory Drift (RID) of BRBFs plays a key role in deciding to retrofit buildings after seismic excitation; however, existing formulas have limitations and cannot effectively help civil engineers, e.g., FEMA P-58, which is a conservative estimation method. Therefore, there is a need to...

The influence of crude glycerol and castor oil-based polyol on the structure and performance of rigid polyurethane-polyisocyanurate foams
PublicationIn this work, biopolyol obtained from two types of industrial crops’ processing products: crude glycerol and castor oil was used for preparation or rigid polyurethane-polyisocyanurate foams. Bio-based polyol was obtained via crude glycerol polymerization and further condensation of resulting polyglycerol with castor oil. Rigid polyurethane-polyisocyanurate foams were prepared at partial substitution (0–70 wt.%) of petrochemical...

Evaluating Performance and Accuracy Improvements for Attention-OCR
PublicationIn this paper we evaluated a set of potential improvements to the successful Attention-OCR architecture, designed to predict multiline text from unconstrained scenes in real-world images. We investigated the impact of several optimizations on model’s accuracy, including employing dynamic RNNs (Recurrent Neural Networks), scheduled sampling, BiLSTM (Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory) and a modified attention model. BiLSTM was...

Selected problems of sensitivity and reliability of a jack-up platform
PublicationThe paper deals with sensitivity and reliability applications to numerical studies of an off-shore platform model. Structural parameters and sea conditions are referred to the Baltic jack-up drilling platform. The study aims at the influence of particular basic variables on static and dynamic response as well as the probability of failure due to water waves and wind loads. The paper presents the sensitivity approach to a generalized...

Application of Majority Voting Protocols to Supporting Trading Decisions
PublicationA broad spectrum of analysis and prediction indicators and methods exists to support trading decisions, but no hard knowledge exist to tell in advance which of them will fit best in a given timeframe. To support trading decisions, a multi-agent self-organizing system has been proposed. The system is based on history based dynamic weight voting and selects the right indicators based on their past performance. The formal analysis...

Determination of chlorine concentration using single temperature modulated semiconductor gas sensor
PublicationA periodic temperature modulation using sinusoidal heater voltage was applied to a commercial SnO2 semiconductor gas sensor. Resulting resistance response of the sensor was analyzed using a feature extraction method based on Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT). The amplitudes of the higher harmonics of the FFT from the dynamic nonlinear responses of measured gas were further utilized as an input for Artificial Neural...

Enhancing Seismic Performance of Semi-rigid Connection Using Shape Memory Alloy Bolts Considering Nonlinear Soil–Structure Interaction
PublicationSteel Moment-Resisting Frames (SMRFs) have their lateral resistance for their rigid connections, while real conditions have shown that the rigidity of a connection depends on the bolts and the end-plate thickness, which may not provide the assumed rigidity in design process. In this research, the main goal is to enhance the semi-rigid connections using shape memory alloy (SMA) bolts and explore their effects on the seismic limit-state...

Experimental Investigation of the Thermal Performance of a Wickless Heat Pipe Operating with Different Fluids: Water, Ethanol, and SES36. Analysis of Influences of Instability Processes at Working Operation Parameters
PublicationIn this study, the influences of different parameters on performance of a wickless heat pipe have been presented. Experiments have been carried out for an input power range from 50 W to 300 W, constant cooling water mass flow rate of 0.01 kg/s, and constant temperature at the inlet to condenser of 10 C. Three working fluids have been tested: water, ethanol, and SES36 (1,1,1,3,3-Pentafluorobutane) with different filling ratios (0.32,...
