Air trapping problem during infiltration on the large areas
PublicationThe process of flow modeling in unsaturated porous medium is often found in many fields of sciences: geology, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, microbiology or chemistry. Problem is relatively complicated due to complexity of the system which contains three phases: water, air and soil skeleton. The flow of water in such a medium can be described using two-phase (2PH) flow formulation, which accounts the inflow of air and water phases,...

Projektowanie układów geometrycznych toru z zastosowaniem optymalizacji wielokryterialnej
PublicationW pracy przedstawiono metodę projektowania odcinków trasy kolejowej położonych w łuku, dostosowaną do techniki mobilnych pomiarów satelitarnych. Rozwiązanie problemu projektowego wykorzystuje zapis matematyczny i polega na wyznaczeniu uniwersalnych równań opisujących całość układu geometrycznego. Odbywa się to sekwencyjnie, obejmując kolejne fragmenty tegoż układu. Procedura projektowania ma charakter uniwersalny, gdyż w ogólnym...

Projektowanie łuków koszowych dostosowane do pomiarów satelitarnych
PublicationW pracy przedstawiono nową metodę projektowania rejonu zmiany kierunku trasy kolejowej, dostosowaną do techniki ciagłych pomiarów satelitarnych. Metoda ta może się okazać szczególnie przydatna podczas projektowania regulacji osi istniejącego toru, kiedy określenie obu kierunków głównych trasy okazuje się niemożliwe. Jedynym rozwiązaniem staje się wówczas wprowadzenie do układu geometrycznego dwóch łuków kołowych o różnym promieniu,...

GreedyMAX-type Algorithms for the Maximum Independent Set Problem
PublicationA maximum independent set problem for a simple graph G = (V,E) is to find the largest subset of pairwise nonadjacent vertices. The problem is known to be NP-hard and it is also hard to approximate. Within this article we introduce a non-negative integer valued functionp defined on the vertex set V(G) and called a potential function of agraph G, while P(G) = max{vinV(G)| p(v)} is called a potential of G. For any graph P(G) <= D(G),...

Normal-form preemption sequences for an open problem in scheduling theory
PublicationStructural properties of optimal preemptive schedules have been studied in a number of recent papers with a primary focus on two structural parameters: the minimum number of preemptions necessary, and a tight lower bound on shifts, i.e., the sizes of intervals bounded by the times created by preemptions, job starts, or completions. These two parameters have been investigated for a large class of preemptive scheduling problems,...

A Note on a Problem Posed by D. E. Knuth on a Satisfiability Recurrence
PublicationWe resolve a conjecture proposed by D.E. Knuth concerning a recurrence arising in the satisfiability problem. Knuth's recurrence resembles recurrences arising in the analysis of tries, in particular PATRICIA tries, and asymmetric leader election. We solve Knuth's recurrence exactly and asymptotically, using analytic techniques such as the Mellin transform and analytic depoissonization.

PublicationKwestie zmian klimatycznych przestały być przedmiotem zainteresowania jedynie wąskich grup specjalistów, a stały się problemem społecznym angażującym szerszą opinię publiczną. Wobec wzrastającego znaczenia problemów środowiskowych w społeczeństwach, głównie na przełomie XX i XXI wieku, władze centralne we współpracy z samorządami miejskimi zaczęły podejmować działania na rzecz wsparcia tzw. środowiskowej (zielonej) polityki. Artykuł...

Transcendentalna dedukcja eteru. Opus postumum Kanta a problem filozofii przyrody.
PublicationW artykule przedstawiono, w horyzoncie rozwoju całej krytycznej kantowskiej filozofii przyrody, hipotezę eteru i transcendentalną dedukcję eteru, zawarte w opus postumum I. Kanta.

MULTI-OBJECTIVE OPTIMIZATION PROBLEM IN THE OptD-MULTI METHOD
PublicationNew measurement technologies, e.g. Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR), generate very large datasets. In many cases, it is reasonable to reduce the number of measuring points, but in such a way that the datasets after reduction satisfy specific optimization criteria. For this purpose the Optimum Dataset (OptD) method proposed in [1] and [2] can be applied. The OptD method with the use of several optimization criteria is called...

The complexity of the L(p,q)-labeling problem for bipartite planar graphs of small degree

Assessment of tensile forces in Sopot Forest Opera membrane by in situ measurements and iterative numerical strategy for inverse problem
PublicationAssessment of tensile forces in newly build Sopot Forest Opera roofing membrane is presented. The procedure is based on in situ measurements and solution of the inverse problem by an iterative procedure. The goal of the analysis is to determine whether the stress state of the membrane is consistent with the design assumptions. The paper contains the description of measurements, used instruments, applied loadings, numerical investiga-tions...

A Triplet-Learnt Coarse-to-Fine Reranking for Vehicle Re-identification
PublicationVehicle re-identification refers to the task of matching the same query vehicle across non-overlapping cameras and diverse viewpoints. Research interest on the field emerged with intelligent transportation systems and the necessity for public security maintenance. Compared to person, vehicle re-identification is more intricate, facing the challenges of lower intra-class and higher inter-class similarities. Motivated by deep...
